El Seven & Movita

Artwork by Kevin Meethan

This blog initially concerns two groups that existed in the Reading area in the late 1970′s/early 1980′s.

El Seven came together in the late 1970′s; the first lineup consisted of:

Garry Jones Bass&vocals
Jon Hosking Keyboards
John Townsend Guitar&vocals
Dave Hughes Drums

This was the lineup that recorded Radio Tokyo b/w Turn Out The Light.

The second lineup was the same but with Dave Hughes replaced by Steve Mayes on drums, this lineup recorded the Magnifico EP.

In the early 1980′s El Seven parted company with another drummer and decided to call it a day, following a final recording with the second lineup from which the track Under Control featured on the Beyond The River compilation was taken.

John Townsend and Jon Hosking then regrouped as Movita, with the addition of Annie Hosking as drum machine controller. The vinyl recordings of Movita are also listed below.
